OKLAHOMA DIVISION FALLS TO PROVISIONAL STATUS: At the Nashville Convention in July 2005, a resolution was passed overwhelmingly to call for an investigation of the Oklahoma Division, S.C.V., whose leadership...which was opposed to the administration of S.C.V. Commander-in-Chief Sweeney...was said to be engaged in what has been termed a "scortched earth campaign" designed to drive members out of the SCV.

As a result of this investigation, and a December 2, 2005 report from S.C.V. International Headquarters, which revealed that, as a result of division members not renewing their memberships, the number of Camps in good standing in the Division had dropped below the minimum number of five, on December 3, 2005 Commander-in-Chief Sweeney invoked his authority under Art. IX, Sect. 7 of the SCV Constitution and revoked the charter of the Oklahoma Division. The four remaining camps were instructed to report directly to Army of the Transmississippi Commander Chuck Rand and to IHQ.

Happily, grass-roots efforts to reconstitute the Division began almost immediately, and on January 10, 2006, the Commander-in-Chief announced the reactivation of the Division in Provisional Status and the appointment of provisional officers to guide the division during this formative phase. The provisional commander is Dr. Lester Tucker of Edmond, Oklahoma. Harold Tydings of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma has been appointed as provisional 1st Lt. Commander of the Division, and Kevin Easterling of Norman has been appointed Division Adjutant. Commander Tucker has announced the goal of restoring the Oklahoma Division to a full division status of seven camps and 200 members within one year. He also wishes to see the creation of a division newsletter and webpage devoted to the core historical mission of the SCV, rather than to primarily be instruments for internal SCV politics.

Commander-in-Chief Sweeney has great confidence that these new leaders will restore the Oklahoma Division to its rightful place as one of the foremost divisions in the Confederation. We of the Arizona Division extend them our best wishes and hopes for a speedy return to full Divisional status.
