CELEBRATION IN HONOUR OF LEE, JACKSON, AND MAURY HELD: On Saturday, January 14, 2006, the General Joe Wheeler Chapter 966, United Daughters of the Confederacy, hosted their second annual celebration in honour of General Robert E. Lee, Lt. General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, and Commodore Matthew Fontaine Maury, C.S.N. The event was held at Marie Callender’s Restaurant in Chandler, Arizona, and was attended by members of S.C.V. Camps 1202, 1647, 1708, 1710, 2074, and 2096 (the S.C.V. Arizona Division Executive Council Meeting being held at the same location immediately following the event) as well as Chapter 966.

One highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the U.D.C. National Defense Medal to Arizona Division, S.C.V. Chaplain Dr. Loyd R. Ganey. Ganey served in both the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm, and is descended from Private Luke R. Ganey, 28th Alabama Infantry.

Following a delicious luncheon of turkey ciabatta, quiche, or meatloaf, a lively game of "Heroes Bingo" was played. The game, similar to regular Bingo, used facts about the three Confederate heroes honoured at the day’s festivities instead of numbers. Several nice prizes were awarded.
