S.C.V. MEMBERSHIP: Please remember that dues renewal period has started and your dues payment cut off date is November 1, 2006, and make sure that each of your camp’s members is aware that he needs to renew his dues by that date in order to ensure the uninterrupted receipt of the Confederate Veteran magazine.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Recently members may have received email communications from a source calling itself "CV News". Please be advised that while this medium may be operated by members of the SCV, "CV NEWS" IS NOT CONNECTED WITH THE SONS OF CONFEDERATE VETERANS IN ANY CAPACITY, nor do the statements made through that medium represent the position of the SCV, the General Headquarters or any of its officers. If you would like to receive occasional notices and announcements from the official, legitimate SCV news source, please visit http://www.scv.org/maillistSubscription.php.

NEW ORLEANS REUNION: The 111th SCV annual general reunion/convention was held at the Sheraton Hotel, New Orleans, LA from August 2-5, 2006. The Reunion was a great success with over 660 registered members, representing over 300 camps, in attendance. Elections for CiC, Lt CiC, and GEC positions in the three Army Departments were held along with a vote to on a new SCV constitution, all of which are summarized in the Adjutant’s Report elsewhere in this newsletter.

NEW S.C.V. CONSTITUTION INCLUDES CADET MEMBERSHIP: The new S.C.V. Constitution was approved at the Reunion, and one of the more popular provisions is the establishment of Cadet Membership for young men not yet 12 years old who are otherwise eligible for SCV membership. A regular SCV application, with the word Cadet written or printed at the top, will be submitted along with $10 to General Headquarters (GHQ), completely filled out including the Camp’s approval. The GHQ will enter the young man in the database, assign him a SCV membership number, and all records will be the same as a full member except that his membership status will be different. The names of cadet members will not appear on the camp membership roster nor will they receive the Confederate Veteran magazine. Once the young man becomes 12, he will pay his regular dues and his status will be changed to a full member.

RECRUITING DVD: A new recruiting DVD entitled "All But Their Honor" has been completed and a complimentary copy is being mailed to Camp Commanders by GHQ. This video was debuted at the 111th Annual General Reunion in New Orleans. This video is sixteen minutes in length and a loop can be selected which allows it to play continuously if the camp wishes to set it up at a Gun Show or other events where the public is passing by. Additional copies may be purchased from GHQ for $10.00 with postage and handling included.

TIME AND PLACE OF FUTURE CONVENTIONS SET: The 2007 SCV National Reunion will be hosted by the Admiral Raphael Semmes Camp 11, Mobile AL and the 2008 Reunion will be held in Concord NC. The 2009 Reunion will be held in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

CONFEDERATE VETERAN MAGAZINE: The next edition of the Confederate Veteran magazine, cover date July August 2006, has been printed. The magazine went into the bulk mail system on August 12, 2006. Any photographs or articles submitted to the Editor in Chief for publication in the camp news section should be sent electronically, if possible, to eic@scv.org or mailed directly to Frank B. Powell III, 9701 Fonville Rd, Wake Forest NC 27587.

S.C.V. TO SHARE CREDIT CARD REVENUE WITH DIVISIONS: Beginning August 1, 2006 the SCV national organization will be sharing 25% of the revenue received from the SCV VISA Card program with the divisions. The GHQ receives a monthly report from the bank which breaks down purchases by state based upon the billing address of the card holder. The checks to divisions will be made monthly, quarterly or annually once the amount due to the division is at least $100. Division members are encouraged to apply for a card. Applications have been sent to the division adjutants or you may request one from the GHQ.

THE REBEL YELL PLACES THIRD IN NATIONAL COMPETITION: In competition for the Dewitt Smith Jobe Award for the best Division newsletter, the Arizona Division’s publication, The Rebel Yell, finished third, besting entries by such populous and well-funded Divisions as Florida, Georgia, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Virginia, and North and South Carolina. Congratulations to Editors John Mohler and Robert Perkins, both of whom contributed entries to this year’s competition, on this achievement.
