JUST WHO IS THIS LADY, AND WHAT HAS SHE DONE TO OUR DIVISION ADJUTANT?

Whatever it is, he appears to be quite pleased with it! Pictured at left is Division Adjutant

Curt Tipton during his recent vacation cruise to Alaska. Just remember, what happens in

Alaska, stays in Alaska...or isn’t that supposed to be Vegas? We’re so confused!

BLACK POWDER SHOOT: The Confederate Secret Service Camp 1710 held its annual

Black Powder Weapons Demonstration & Competitive Shoot at the Sierra Vista Firing Range

on 26 August, 2006. Members competed in three categories--cap and ball revolvers,

muzzle-loading rifles and breech-loading rifles. Carbines were also allowed in the latter

two categories. In a clean sweep, Commander John Rogers fired the highest scores in all

three categories and, obviously held the highest overall score. The prestigious "Bull in the

Butt" award went to Adjutant Curt Tipton who "couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle!"

Our thanks to Bill Mapoles of the Sierra Vista Firing Range who arranged for our use of the

facility. Pictured is Past Commander Dwaine Bright, in the process of preparing his

.58 caliber Richmond Rifle for competition in the muzzle-loading rifle category.

CAMP 1525 ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING: At the Annual Business Meeting held by the

Colonel Sherod Hunter Camp 1525 on July 29, 2006, awards were given recognizing Camp

members for their achievements over the past year. Pictured, left to right, are the winners...Robert Perkins, who won the Jefferson Davis Award (the Camp’s Most

Distinguished Member Award, which he is holding) and the Robert E. Lee Award ( for

highest attendance at Camp events, the Camp’s second highest award); Jerry Harbin, who

won the Samuel Cooper Award recognizing his service as Camp Adjutant; Dan Huskisson, who

won the Stonewall Jackson Award (for greatest support of Camp projects, the Camp’s third

highest award, which he is holding) and the James Longstreet Award recognizing his service

as Lt. Commander; and Steve Johnson, who won the Leonidas Polk Award recognizing his

 service as Camp Chaplain.

CAMP 1710 REPRESENTED AT GETTYSBURG REENACTMENT: In July 2006, the

Confederate Secret Service Camp 1710 was represented at the annual reenactment

of the Battle of Gettysburg. Camp 1710 Associate Member Paul Karabin, who bears an

uncanny resemblance to General George Pickett, held the Camp's credentials at the

event. Playing the role of General Pickett, Paul took part in several ceremonies and

activities during the Anniversary. Pictured at left...Compatriot Karabin portraying

Perkins. Commander Perkins gave a short speech (pictured at left) which was well received

by the attendees at the event. Prior to the ceremony itself, Lt. Commander Huskisson cleaned

the bronze Confederate Crosses of Honor which our Camp installed at the cemetery last

year. After receiving attention from Dan, the markers looked great! Thanks to Dan for all his

 hard work on this project!
