Compatriots:

The time for renewing SCV membership is past. The deadline was 31 October. Our Camps did a credible job in retaining members. Here are the most recent figures (as of 2 December 2006). Associate and Dual members are not included.

—Camp 1202: 85% renewal, 22 of 26 members renewed.

—Camp 1525: 100% renewal, 15 of 15 renewed.

—Camp 1647: 100% renewal, 11 of 11 renewed.

—Camp 1708: 82% renewal, 14 of 17 reported, status of other 3 not confirmed.

—Camp 1710: 97% renewal 32 of 33 members renewed.

—Camp 2074: 90% renewal 18 of 20 members renewed.

—Camp 2096: 100% renewal 8 of 8 renewed

—Division overall: 92% renewal--120 of 130 members renewed.

The overall division and Camp 1708 rates of retention will change once the status of the last 3 Camp 1708 Compatriots is confirmed. Current Division strength is 129 (including the new members, reactivations and the 3 1708 compatriots).

Congratulations to Camps 1525, 1647 and 2096 for a 100% retention rate. Camp 1647 particularly should be complimented as we thought at the beginning of the fiscal year we might lose the Camp altogether. Thanks to the hard work of Commander Ken Garrison and Brigade Commander Robert Perkins, that didn't happen.

And congratulations to those camps who exceeded 90%...each of these have qualified for the Division’s new Retention Award! I ask our Camp leadership to contact those members who did not renew and ask them to reconsider. Let's see if we can bring these numbers up to over 90% for each and every Camp of the Division!

Regarding recruiting, our Camps are doing well. Here are the statistics since 3 June 2006. 18 gentlemen have been contacted. Ten have joined as full or associate members, transferred into an Arizona Camp or reactivated membership.

—Camp 1202: 1 new member

—Camp 1525: 1 new member, 1 transfer in

—Camp 1647: 1 transfer in, 2 reactivations

—Camp 1708: 1 new member

—Camp 1710: 2 new members, 1 associate member

—Camp 2074: 0

—Camp 2096: 1 new member

Several events are coming up where we can boost recruiting. Again, I remind y’all of Commander Mangum’s challenge to each member: Bring in one new member for each current member. We all know or are related to a person who is qualified for membership! Recruit them!

Cadet membership: Y’all may be aware that the SCV adopted a Cadet membership program at the New Orleans convention. The program is designed to admit young men from birth to 12 years of age into a special category of membership. At age 12, the Cadet member may become a full member. The provisions allow a Camp to adopt or not adopt the program as the members see fit. Please check with your Camp Commander or Adjutant to see if your Camp has adopted the program. The details of the program are in the SCV constitution available on line at www.scv.org.
